Breast Implant Replacement for Silicone or Saline Implants

It must be known that breast implants does not last forever and must be changed in a matter of time. There will also a circumstance that a saline or silicone implants can leak or break; when this happens, a breast implant replacement surgery is essential to change the old ones and save the bust against any problems.

Every implant, saline or silicone they maybe are prone to breakage once they get old. It’s important to know if any of these implants are already on the verge of breaking to avoid leaking of substance on your busts for it can be harmful. Read on to know how to tell if an implant is about to break.

Silicone Implants

After a saline implant starts to break, the leaking will follow gradually; hence it’s not always easy to determine if a rupture on the breasts is already happening unless the implants are checked and taken out. This slow leaking of the silicone is dangerous as it can seep outside the bust’s scar tissue capsule then move to the body’s other vital organs, as well as in the lymph nodes beneath the arms which is impossible to get rid of one it spreads out. A breast implant replacement surgery will be necessary to stop this from happening. Have your silicone implants checked by your surgeon if you suspect any breakage.

Saline Implants

Compared to silicone, a saline leakage can be noticed fast since it will happen quickly after the breakage of the implants. Once a breakage takes place, the implant will shrink like a balloon deprived of air and then get distorted, making the change in shape obvious. That said, patients will not need an MRI or other kinds of imaging technique to know it if their saline implants are about to have breakage troubles and needs to undergo a breast implant replacement procedure.

Approximately 10 years following a bust augmentation, each patient is encouraged to have their saline or silicone implants examined for any signs of breakage or leakage. This will help determine if breast implant replacement surgery should be administered and also to save the look and shape of the enhanced busts.

Understanding When You Need a Breast Uplift Surgery

Before and After Photos of a Breast Uplift Surgery

Certain events in a woman’s life such as being a mother and losing a lot of weight can result to their bust to sag which can affect their confidence. In the medical world, the dropping of the breast is referred to as ptosis. In this case, a breast uplift surgery or mastopexy is needed to bring back the firmness and shape of the bust.

The first and important thing to do is to find out if you truly have ptosis. Go in front of the mirror and examine the look of your bust and the positioning of your nipples.

Take note of the inframammary fold which is situated under the breast then place a pencil on it. When the nipple is of the same level as that of the pencil on the inframammary fold, then it’s a sure sign that your breast is sagging and requires a breast uplift operation. This stage of ptosis is considered to be mild or in grade two condition. You don’t have anything to worry about mastopexy when your nipples are on top of the fold because it simply indicates that your bust is in normal shape.

On the other hand, a nipple that is positioned under the inframammary fold means a severe ptosis. The nipples can either be in a downward or forward spot below the fold. When the space amidst the sternal notch and the nipples is so huge, then it’s essential that you get a breast uplift surgery to correct the issue effectively.

A mastopexy will work well as long as the patient got sufficient bust tissue to help lift the sagging breasts. But for cases of ptosis with lesser breast tissue, a bust augmentation plus breast uplift surgery must be done together to add volume to the bust, lift the nipples and tighten those drooping skin.

Adrian Richards talks about breast ptosis (breast droop). A Breast Uplift (Mastopexy) is an operation to lift and re-shape sagging breasts, giving a firmer, more youthful-looking bust line. This procedure can not make small breasts larger or reduce large breasts.

The 2 Purposes for Getting a Breast Implant Removal

The cosmetic procedure prosthesis, famously known as breast implant removal surgery, is usually done for individuals who wish to have their implants taken out. There will come a time when those people who previously chose to have breast enlargement will need to have their implants taken out due to cosmetic or medical reasons. This is just fine as long as it will make the patient feel good and healthy with their busts after their implants are removed.

Cosmetic Purpose

When patients start to feel like having large breasts is not making them feel beautiful anymore, they can have their implants removed to get the natural look of their busts before they had their bust augmentation.

This kind of prosthesis surgery will be fast and easy to do for the surgeon and the patient will have a quick recovery period after undergoing this breast implant removal operation.

 Medical Purpose

Getting rid of breast implants is essential once the patient is experiencing capsular contracture following a bust augmentation. This medical condition means that the capsule or scar tissue on the patient’s breast is compressing the implants; thus resulting to feelings of pain or discomfort.  A prosthesis will be necessary to take out the implants and local silicone within the patient’s body.

Due to the sensitivity of the capsular contracture, a medical breast implant removal procedure will take hours to administer, plus the recuperation of the patient may take a while than that of cosmetic prosthesis.

As I mentioned it already, patients with breast implants can easily request their surgeon to do a prosthesis surgery for them, may it be due to cosmetic or medical reasons. However, for medical types of breast implant removal operation, only a well-trained and board certified cosmetic surgeon must do the procedure to guarantee a safe and successful result.

Adrian Richards, Plastic Surgeon of Aurora Clinics discusses the reasons to exchange breast implants. Reasons to change the implants include: hardening, abnormal position and rupture.

Safety Measures Following a Breast Uplift Operation

There are certain safety measures that must be followed after a breast uplift surgery, also known as mastopexy, for this will help a patient heal faster and obtain a satisfying result. For instance, after the procedure is done, patients will be asked to take a full bed rest. The following day, any signs of draining will be removed but you will be asked to get up and be mobile again. A calf stimulator will be placed on your legs the entire night to massage your calves so that blood clots will be avoided and to keep your body’s blood supply in normal state.

Patients are typically permitted to go home a day or two following the operation. While having a full rest away from the hospital, doing excessive or tiring activities such as driving or household chores is strictly prohibited. This is because bending down or getting tired days after a breast uplift operation will most likely lead to your blood pressure going up and will also delay the process of healing.

Another hospital appointment is needed two weeks after the surgery in order to change the wound’s dressing. The Micropore tape used to cover the incision following the breast uplift procedure will be removed and then a new one will be placed to protect the wound from getting infected. Moreover, for the next six weeks, you will need to use the medical bra as this will preserve the scar’s condition. After the bra is removed, using some scar oil in massaging the scars will help soften and eradicate them.

Every two weeks when the surgery is done, patients must go back to their doctor for follow-up examinations. After six weeks, you will be taken postoperative photographs to check before and after images of your busts. These photos are taken so that both you and your surgeon will know if your desired result was achieved after the breast uplift operation was performed.

Breast Implant Removal - How and Why It’s Done

Once people age, they usually start thinking about getting a breast implant removal surgery since they feel like it’s not appropriate for them anymore to have large breasts. Yet aside from this particular reason, anyone contemplating about having their implants taken out must really take into consideration why they want to do it and then discuss with their surgeons the pros and cons of such procedure so that regrets will be avoided later on.

This cosmetic process of breast implant removal is fast and simple. What your surgeon will do is to eliminate every bust implant matter, such as the lining and all silicon materials found on your breast. After which, the bust will be fully cleaned and washed from any trace of implant’s capsule and silicon within it.  To make it hassle-free, the implants are typically taken out whole by the surgeon.

Patient may worry about obtaining extra scars and having drooping breasts in case they decide to undergo a breast implant removal surgery. But since doctors will use the old incision when you had your bust augmentation before, there will be no added scars. With regards to the common notion of breasts drooping after the implants are taken out, that will not happen as the bust will continue to develop more tissue to keep its volume and shape in normal condition.

After the procedure, the breast tissue will remain in good shape, plus every implant component will be totally taken out form the bust.  Despite the fact that your once bigger bust will decrease in size, it’s just fine because they will still look firm and are free from having extra scarring following the completion of your breast implant removal surgery.

Mr. Adrian Richards explains the reasons why one might consider Removal of Breast Implants, what it entails, and how the breasts are likely to appear after the surgery.

When is Breast Implant Replacement Needed

Not all breast enlargement surgeries turn out to be perfect all the time. For example, a patient may feel not satisfied with the look or size of their new breasts that they will request for a breast implant replacement procedure to achieve the look they want their busts to have. There are other important reasons why there’s a need to change the breast implants which I will discuss with you in this article.

Increase the Size of the Implants
The main reason why of individuals undergo a bust augmentation is to have bigger breasts. So if you feel that your implants are not big enough, you can have them replaced through implant replacement surgery.  However, many cosmetic surgeons prefer that patients get a minimal size of implants proportioned to their bodies since going too big may result for breasts to droop due to the large implants stretching the bust’s natural tissue.

Lessen the Implants Size
Patients may also feel that their new set of bust is too big for them that a breast implant replacement is needed to decrease the size of the implants. The exchanging of the implants is simple and fast, yet the surgeon may also require you to undergo a bust uplift procedure to tighten the skin on your breasts which previously had large implants.

Improve the Quality of Implants
Other kinds or brands of implants are deemed not safe for the human body such as the commonly used French made PIP implants. This type of implants is currently under investigation as they seemed to be not safe and of low quality. In case you have PIP implants and worried of their safety, you can have them changed for quality ones via breast implant replacement surgery.

Having Issues with Implants
Even if the implants are perfect in size and quality, some patients may still have issues with them such as feelings of being tangible or slightly wavy in the bust tissues. Having these problems will result to a change in the look of the breasts and the implants will appear to be visibly deformed. The solution for such issue is to have a breast implant replacement procedure on your newly enhanced bust.

Adrian Richards, Plastic Surgeon of Aurora Clinics discusses the reasons to exchange breast implants. He explains that if the implants are intact often there is no reason to change them even after a number of years. Reasons to change the implants include: hardening, abnormal position and rupture. Mr Richards describes the procedure have Breast Implant Exchange surgery and discussed the pros and cons of each.

Possible Illness Caused by Breast Implant Replacement

Every year in the month of October is considered to be a month of awareness about breast cancer and how to fight this deadly disease. A recent study done by FDA (Food and Drug Administration Agency) revealed that one of the breast implant replacement side effects could bring a rare form of illness called Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma or ALCL. This disease, attributed to breast implants, is not cancer. It is a form of lymphoma that harms the body’s white blood cells, also called as the T cells.

The Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, according to medical literature, doctors and implant providers, is usually present among women who have undergone breast enlargement. The tumor does not originate from the bust itself but on the scar tissues around the breast implants. Fortunately, compared to the usual Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, the ACLC due to breast implant replacement is not a lethal condition and can be cured easily with the use of modern methods of treatment.

As I mentioned it already, ALCL development brought about by breast implants occur to those women who have breast implant replacement due to the fluids around their implants that does not dried-up or go away. Even if it’s still unknown why implants may possibly cause for the formation of ACLC, medical researchers think that it comes from the shell of the implant (present in saline implants for they have silicone shell too) that may produce cancerous modification in the white blood cells. Yet, not enough evidence can justify if this is truly the root of the ACLC occurrence among ladies with breast implants.

To this day, about five to ten million of women allegedly obtained breast implants but only a small number have acquired ACLC. It is still not clear why implants could lead to ACLC. It’s recommend though for women experiencing problems with their implants to visit their cosmetic surgery and have a talk regarding the possibility of them getting a breast implant replacement or removal to help secure their implants status and their health too.

In this video, Mr Adrian Richards explains what are the reasons to consider Removal or Replacement of Breast Implants, who should consider the procedures and how would that affect the appearance of your breasts.
